Agrawal Eye Hospital, Meerut was started in 1971 by the renowned eye surgeon, Late Dr. T. P. Agrawal and became a major Eye Centre of North India. It has attained new heights since then. Dr. Shishir Agrawal did his graduation, M.B.B.S., and then, post graduation, M.S., from Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut, in 1995. He worked in various hospitals in U.K. (London, etc.). He passed his F.R.C.S., Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, U.K., in 1996 and also MRCOphth, Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London, England, in the same year. He was also awarded the Diplomate of National Board, New Delhi, in the same year. He always had a brilliant academic career throughout. He has worked in/ visited various hospitals in USA, UK, Germany, etc. He has done fellowship in Advanced Vitreo-Retinal diseases.
His wife, Dr. Jaya Agrawal, has been a topper and gold-medalist in multiple subjects in M.B.B.S., from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. She did her post graduation, M.S., from Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut, F.R.C.S., Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, U.K., and the Diplomate of National Board, New Delhi, in 1997. She was later awarded Membership of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, M.N.A.M.S.
Late Dr. T. P. Agrawal, was in ophthalmic practice for more than 40 years, had been a famous and a devoted eye surgeon. He had a distinguished clinical record. He was one of the most renowned Ophthalmologists of North India. He had worked in teaching institutions for more than 10 years – he had been a Professor of Ophthalmology at JIPMER-Pondicherry, KMC-Manipal and Goa Medical College-Goa. To his credit were numerous research papers in various national and international journals, and his references are quoted in the famous Ophthalmology reference book of Duke-Elder. He was one of the most experienced eye surgeons for general eye diseases combined with his expertise in newer advances of LASIK, Phacoemulsification with Foldable Intraocular Lens Implantation and Advanced Vitreo-Retinal Eye Diseases.
